 Risk Assessment
Fire, First Aid, Emergency and Welfare arrangements:
FIRE
  • Do you have adequate means of fire detection and a means of raising the alarm in place?
  • Are there adequate numbers of fire exits which are unlocked, signed, and kept clear at all times?
  • Are there adequate numbers of fire extinguishers in place?
  • Will everyone be briefed on the emergency arrangements in place?
  • Daily checks carried out to ensure all controls implemented?
Notes: There is only one exit from the given place that the scene will be filmed in. There is a fire extinguisher in the room close to the door so if a small fire breaks out there is a small chance of injury. I don’t think there are enough exits but the only exit is easily accessible. I don’t think there Is any fire detection devices so everyone in the area must be very vocal if something bad happens. Everyone will be briefed if a fire or any type of hazard happens. A daily check will be in place before the filming happens to ensure every danger is minuscule.
FIRST AID
·        First aiders/First Aid Kits/Paramedics in place as required?
·        Local accident and emergency hospital identified?
Notes: Addenbrookes Hospital is very close to the collage meaning if a serious injury happens then help can be arriving quicker than normal. Local first aiders will be identified before the filming happens so everyone knows who to go to.
WELFARE
·        Adequate heating and ventilation provided?
·        Drinking water available
·        Washing and changing facilities provided if necessary?
·        Catering provided?
·        Overnight accommodation provided?
Notes: Heating and ventilation is provided inside the space for filming so no one will be cold or unwell while in the time we are given to film. Water is available from the canteen less than a minute walk away so everyone can stay hydrated. Changing facilities are found inside the collage. Catering will not be needed and neither will overnight accommodation, everything will be done during the day to ensure better lighting and lesser risk of injury
How will this risk assessment be communicated to all relevant parties?

Via Email: Yes

Safety Briefings: No

Verbal Communication: Yes

Included on Call Sheet: No

WHAT HAZARDS ARE INVOLVED?

Please identify the relevant hazards from the list below and make them bold. Remember every production is different – the hazards and control measures will have to be adjusted to meet your particular activity. Ensure all risks are reduced to the level of Low

Hazards Identified & Risks Arising
Identify hazards which could cause significant harm, how and to whom. Include anybody who may be present and affected by your activity, not only your team (e.g. other workers, public, drivers, children, elderly, physically challenged and those who may be more vulnerable to certain hazards)
Risk Assessment & Precautions Required
Evaluate the risks and identify precautions/controls so that they are sufficient or whether more needs to be done. Take into account information from all available sources (e.g. premises management, resource providers, etc…)

ACCESS & EGRESS General
Failure to ensure and maintain sound access and egress arrangements at all filming locations, could result in:
  • Obstructions / blocked exit routes

  • Appropriate vehicles will be deployed (with competent drivers) to transport personnel and equipment to location.
  • For the getting in and out of tech equipment to and from filming locations, production will proceed with caution, and where applicable will schedule vehicle movements.
  • Traffic management systems and, where applicable, road closures will be deployed where production use and or film on public paths streets/roads. Segregate the public / remaining residents from productions’ filming activities.
  • Anyone controlling the road will wear hi-vis, and anyone working near the road will maintain a safe distance from it.

Compliance with relevant health and safety requirements:
Production employees :

"Electricity can kill and cause fires and explosions."I will not touch any electrical system as it could put mine and others lives at risk.

Long working hours can cause stress and make you more prone to mistakes. I will take regular breaks from my assigned jobs and will only be working at a computer for a short amount of time a day (2 hours)

Natural light is best. Blinds/curtains will be up/ open all through working hours if it is nice enough outside to light the room. If it is too dark, the blinds/curtains will be down/closed and the light will be on as staring at a computer in the dark may cause a risk.

Do regular stretching, and get others to do the same. I will stretch my arms and legs regularly.
1st assistant director + clapper :

no-one should work more than 12 hours a day.The project will be made in the space of several days to weeks. so it would be extremely rare that work will continue for anything close to 12 hours a day. I will take breaks throughout my day and leave at a certain time.

Electricity can kill and cause fires. To prevent this I will not touch or interfere with any electrical devices as it could put mine and others peop
le at risk.

Falls from height are the single most common cause of death at work. There will be nothing that will mean someone has to climb up to certain heights, but if the situation does happen where someone needs to climb a height,  I will make sure that whatever height someone climbs, they are helped by someone to make sure  they cannot fall.

Cables must be safely routed or covered to prevent trips or falls and to protect the integrity and insulation.I will make sure the cables used for the equipment are in a safe location and if and cable runs along the floor I will use a cover to prevent tripping over them.

 Following safe working practices:

Creating the SFX

Following health and safety procedures
Stage 1
Add putty to the knuckle and use a spatula to smooth it down to create a realistic lump.
-        Make sure the actor does not have any allergies related to the putty to stop them from having a reaction.
-        Make sure you use the spatula sensibly and be careful not to hurt the actor.
Stage 2
Use foundation to blend the putty with the finger to create a real effect .
-        Make sure the actor does not have any allergic reaction to the foundation or any cuts on the finger.
Stage 3
Use the spatula to create a cut in the putty that is on the actors finger.
-        Do not cut too deep so you don't damage the actor .
Stage 4
Use red/black paint to add ‘blood’ to the cut to create the effect that the cut is deep.
-        Make sure the actor does not have any allergic reaction to the paint by asking them if they are allergic to any type of chemical that is in it.
